Local-first / No developer cloud storage1. Scope and summary
SpeakTask is a local-first Android task manager. It has no account, ads, analytics SDK, or developer-operated task server. Tasks remain in the app’s private storage.
Voice input is optional and is provided by Android’s speech-recognition service. Depending on your device and settings, that service may send audio to its provider (for example, Google), including outside your country. SpeakTask receives the resulting text and never receives or stores the audio.
2. Data processed locally
- Task titles, optional notes, due-date text, priority, completion state, and timestamps.
- Voice transcript text returned by the system service, which you can review before saving.
- App preferences, including acknowledgement of the voice disclosure.
- A preserved recovery copy if unreadable task storage is detected.
SpeakTask does not collect contacts, photos, location, advertising identifiers, payment-card details, or task content on developer servers.
3. Purposes and legal bases
Local data is processed to create, display, edit, complete, import, export, recover, and delete tasks. Where the UK GDPR, EU GDPR, or similar law applies, this processing is necessary to provide the app and perform the service you request. Optional voice recognition starts only after your action and disclosure acknowledgement. The selected speech provider is responsible for its own processing and legal basis.
4. Voice recognition and third parties
SpeakTask does not declare RECORD_AUDIO. Tapping Speak opens Android’s system recognizer, which may use microphone access held by that service. SpeakTask requests offline recognition, but offline processing is not guaranteed.
The speech service may process audio remotely and make international transfers. Its retention, security, subprocessors, safeguards, and controls are governed by its own privacy terms. SpeakTask receives text only, stores no audio, and does not declare the Android INTERNET permission. You can always type instead.
5. Storage, retention, recovery, and deletion
Tasks and preferences stay in SpeakTask’s private Android sandbox until you delete them, clear app storage, or uninstall. Android cloud backup and phone-to-phone transfer are disabled. If unreadable data is detected, edits pause and a recovery copy is preserved for export before reset.
6. Import and export
You can export tasks as JSON and import a SpeakTask backup through Android’s document picker. A location or app you choose, including cloud storage, receives that file under its own privacy terms. SpeakTask never uploads it automatically. You are responsible for protecting exported copies.
7. Diagnostics, sharing, and transfers
SpeakTask has no analytics or crash-reporting SDK. Google Play and Android may independently process purchase, installation, device, and crash data under Google’s terms and your settings. UM Business does not sell or rent task content. Data leaves the app only when you intentionally use the system speech service or export a backup.
8. Your choices and rights
You can view, correct, delete, export, and import task data in the app, delete all local data through Android Settings, and avoid voice processing by typing. Depending on your location, you may have rights of access, correction, erasure, restriction, objection, portability, and consent withdrawal. Most requests can be completed directly on your device because UM Business does not receive task content.
You may complain to your local data-protection authority. UK users may contact the ICO; EEA users may contact the authority in their country.
9. Children
SpeakTask is not directed to children under 16. If local law permits a lower age for independent consent, that local rule applies; otherwise a parent or guardian should supervise use.
